We are pleased to inform you that the Indonesian Muslim Society in America (IMSA) and the Malaysian Islamic Study Group (MISG) will be holding our annual convention (Muktamar) in Austin, Texas on December 23 – 27, 2023. Muktamar has been attended by thousands of participants from all parts of the United States and Canada every year and the broadcast has been very popular online.
This annual event is similar to “mudik” in Indonesia or "balik kampung" in Malaysia which is the homecoming trip during Eidul Fitr. Upon arrival, the hosts and the guests all work together to prepare the event. Some take turns to cook for all participants, some take care of and hold classes for the children, and everyone contributes so all of us can be in one place to learn from scholars and to share our experiences and knowledge. This year we have invited Ustadz Salim A. Fillah from Indonesia as well as Ustaz Azlan Shah Nabees Khan from Malaysia joining other well known speakers from Indonesia, Malaysia and the U.S.
Over 90% of Muktamar work is done by volunteers who give their time and expertise with love. That is how we are able to keep the costs affordable every year. There are minimal convention fees, but for those who can’t afford them we rely on outside funding. We have been very fortunate in the past years to have the support from our generous sponsors, and we are hopeful that you will be able to become our sponsor this year.
As our gratitude to you, we will do our best to cater to your needs in reaching our convention participants. Most of the convention participants are Indonesian and Malaysian with strong ties to family in their respective countries.
